2012 Porsche Boxster S

Drive

315 hp @ 6,700 rpm
0-60 mph: 4.8 s
Top Track Speed: 173 mph

2.7-litre engine

The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 195 kW (265 hp) at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque of 280 Nm is available over a broad engine speed range from 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm.

The new Boxster with six-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph). With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it completes the 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 262 km/h (162 mph). In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is reduced to just 5.5 seconds.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage

The most compact vehicle in the Aston Martin line up has now been given the largest engine in the form of the V12 Vantage.

First seen in the DBS, the Vantage’s 510bhp V12 fills the air with a mighty roar. It’s not just 100bhp up on the V8, the whole package has been refined to become a sharper, more focused drive while still retaining the smooth refinement of an Aston. With no lag from the naturally aspirated engine, acceleration is not only rapid but instant. 0-60mph takes just 4 seconds on it’s way to a 190mph top speed. The Vantage also shares it’s 400mm carbon brakes with the DBS, but here acting more purposefully in the lighter car for superb stopping power from speed.

The Vantage is certainly the most sporting car in the current range and One-77 apart, possibly the best that Aston Martin have ever produced

McLaren MP4-12C

Any successor to the phenomenal F1 would have to be pretty special. Fortunately, McLaren have risen to the challenge and produced the stunning new MP4-12C.

McLaren’s obsession in saving weight is evident in the MP4-12C. Designed and produced entirely in house, the Aluminium bodywork, Magnesium beams and carbon monocell chassis (weighing only 80Kg) keep the car’s weight down to an impressive 1300Kg. This goes some way to explaining the MP4’s phenomenal stopping power (100kmh to zero in under 30 metres). A seven speed dual clutch gearshift and F1 inspired brake steer assist balance and grip through corners, while the 592bhp V8 provides awesome acceleration. The MP4-12C even has green credentials, McLaren claiming the highest power per emissions rating there is.

Production will aim for 1300 units per annum in both coupe and roadster formats.

2015 BMW 7-Series to spawn an M variant, but not an M7 - report

Could have 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS)

Automobile Magazine says the model will be called the M770i xDrive and feature a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with approximately 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS) and 480 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.
While those numbers don't sound terribly impressive compared to the Mercedes S63 AMG, which has 537 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft), the M770iX is rumored to have a greater emphasis on lightweight construction and improved handling. As such, it will reportedly feature carbon fiber body panels (on the roof, trunk and hood), lightweight sport seats and carbon-ceramic brakes. There could also be a special eight-speed automatic transmission, a four-tailpipe exhaust system and 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

As for the mainstream models, they will reportedly benefit from a lightweight architecture that incorporates carbon fiber and aluminum. This could enable the sedan to weigh 450 lbs (204 kg) less than its predecessor.
Engine options could include a 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) four-cylinder, a 340 hp (254 kW / 345 PS) six-cylinder and a 460 hp (343 kW / 466 PS) V8. We can also expect two plug-in hybrid variants built around a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine.

GALLARDO LP 570-4 SUPERLEGGERA

THE PACEMAKER

The Gallardo Superleggera is an uncompromising driving machine.
Its running gear, with its mighty braking system, has a dedicated and exceptionally precise set-up, while its 19-inch wheels, Pirelli P Zero Corsa, clad in Pirelli sports rubber, are extremely light.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera brings a whole new meaning to the term “super sportscar”.

THE INTERIOR AND
THE USE OF CARBON-FIBER

Altogether, carbon-fiber components make up 40 (88 lb) of the 70 kilograms (154 lb) saved on the Gallardo Superleggera. In the interior, too, engineers aimed to reduce weight as much as possible.
The center tunnel cover, the door panels and the surround of the e-Gear automated manual transmission lever are made from carbon-fiber.
The high-end material is also used for the sports seats’ shells. They make a significant contribution to the overall weight reduction.

THE BEAUTY OF POWER

The elegance of every Lamborghini rests on both its extreme power and precise functionality. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera’s bodyshell is sculptured and completely free from stylistic additions.

Ferrari 458 Spider

Retactable hard top

The 458 Spider is the first mid-rear engined car in the world to be equipped with an all-aluminium retractable hard top. Patented by Ferrari the roof and its mechanism weigh 25 kg less than a traditional soft-top and, when lowered, takes up less space to the benefit of improved design packaging and aerodynamics. The roof takes just 14 seconds - a record speed - to lower or raise.

Chassis design

The 458 Spider was designed to ensure class-leading levels of handling and driving dynamics. The engineering solutions include strengthening to the sill extrusions and the introduction of structural buttresses. The result is a significant increase in structural rigidity both in terms of torsional rigidity and beam stiffness (both up by around 23%) compared to the F430 Spider. The 458 Spider benefits from ideal weight balance with 42% over the front axle and 58% over the rear.

Engine & sound

The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s 570 CV naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8, winner of the 2011 International Engine of the Year Award. Special care was taken over ensuring that the sound when driving top down would meet enthusiasts' expectations. To this end Ferrari's engineers developed a different rear silencer to get just the right mix between intake and exhaust.

Aerodynamics

Overall, aerodynamic efficiency is improved by 12% over the F430 Spider. This figure was achieved thanks to the double curvature of the roof and the design of the buttresses which optimise air flow to the rear engine cover intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators, thus ensuring optimum engine breathing and cooling.

Electric wind-stop

The electric glass wind-stop is adjustable in height and provides ideal protection for occupants even at high speed, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h. When opening the roof the wind-stop automatically lowers to its optimum position which was defined by computer simulation and wind tunnel experiments on 1:1 scale models

Rear bench

Internal storage space is exceptional for a mid-rear engined spider with a rear bench that can hold a bespoke set of luggage or a golf carry bag.

Fuel consumption

The 458 Spider boasts excellent fuel efficiency with low CO2 emissions (275 g/km). This result was achieved through a series of key engineering solutions incorporated into the HELE (High Emotions, Low Emissions) system, such as:
- Stop&Start (reduces consumption by around 10% on the urban cycle)
- Pulse Width Modulation controlled brushless fan and low-pressure fuel pump (reduces consumption by about 6%)
